What is mafia?

"Mafia, also known as Werewolf, is a party game created by Dmitry Davidoff in 1986 modelling a conflict between two groups: an informed minority (the mafia), and an uninformed majority (the innocents). At the start of the game, each player is secretly assigned a role affiliated with one of these teams. The game has two alternating phases: one, during which the mafia may covertly "murder" an innocent, and two, in which surviving players debate the identities of the mafia and vote to eliminate a suspect. The game continues until all of the mafia have been eliminated or until the mafia outnumber the innocents."

How it Works

The BSD Mafia account will act as the narrator.
The game will be split into "day" and "night". During the "night" the mafia will vote on which innocent they want to kill. During the "day" all players will vote on which player they suspect as mafia.
Each player will be assigned as either Mafia or Innocent. There will be at least a 2:1 Innocent to Mafia ratio.
Among the innocents, two players will be assigned an additional role as follows:
- Sensei/Doctor: This player will be able to save one person (including themselves) at the start of each "night". The role is secret and the player cannot reveal they are the doctor.
- Detective: This player will be able to message the BSD Mafia account each "night" and ask if another player is part of the mafia. This role is secret and the player cannot reveal they are the detective.
Players that are killed are encouraged to stay involved in the discussion to help their side win the game and will still be able to cast a vote.
The game ends when all the mafia members are killed or if the mafia outnumbers innocents.
In the event that more than 25 people sign up to play, we will run multiple games concurrently, each with a different hashtag so players can differentiate their game from the others.

Game Rules

In order to play, you must fill out the sign up form.
Please refrain from telling any other players what role you are assigned. This will make the game more fun and more challenging
Tag any posts about the gameplay with #BSDMafia so the main account can RT it for all players
This is meant to be a fun fandom event, drama/discourse are discouraged.
This is not an 18+, please keep any sexual discussions out of the tag.
This game, by nature, does have dark themes. Please only play if you are okay with that.
If, at any point, you decide you do not want to play, please contact BSD Mafia.
Any player who is still "alive" but is inactive for two consecutive terms will be "killed off"

Player Assignment: Mafia

Your goals are to survive the game and help the Mafia win. A mafia win occurs when mafia members outnumber innocents.
At game start, there are 10 mafia members.
The game will be split into "day" and "night".
During the "night" you and the rest of the mafia will vote on which innocent you want to kill. A link to the vote will be sent by the mod and will stay open for 12 hours or until every mafia member has voted.
The password to vote is nightwarden you will need this for every vote.
During the "day" all players, including you, will vote on which player to execute as potential mafia. A link to the vote will be posted by the mod and will stay open for 12 hours.

Player Assignment: Doctor

Your goals are to survive the game, save as many innocents as possible, and help the innocents win.
A win occurs when all mafia members have been executed.
The game will be split into "day" and "night".
During the "night" you will receive a DM from the mod asking who you would like to save. You will have 12 hours to reply before the game moves forward.
You may save any player still alive, including yourself.
If you save the player that the mafia voted to kill, no death will occur that night.
In the event that you are killed by the mafia, you are encouraged to continue participating in game discussion to help the innocents win, but you will be unable to save any other players.
During the "day" all players, including you, will vote on which player to execute as potential mafia. A link to the vote will be posted by the mod and will stay open for 12 hours.

Player Assignment: Detective

Your goals are to survive the game and help the innocents win.
A win occurs when all mafia members have been executed.
The game will be split into "day" and "night".
During the "night" you will receive a DM from the mod asking who you would like to investigate.
You may name any player still alive.
The mod will reply with a definitive answer as to whether or not the investigated player is mafia.
You may not share these DMs with any other players or reveal you are the detective.
In the event that you are killed by the mafia, you are encouraged to continue participating in game discussion to help the innocents win, but you will be unable to investigate any other players.
During the "day" all players, including you, will vote on which player to execute as potential mafia. A link to the vote will be posted by the mod and will stay open for 12 hours.

Player Assignment: Innocent

Your goals are to survive the game and help the innocents win.
A win occurs when all mafia members have been executed.
The game will be split into "day" and "night".
During the "night" the mafia will vote on one player to 'kill'.
At the start of the next "day", the mod will reveal which player was killed.
In the event that you are killed, you are encouraged to continue participating in game discussion to help the innocents win.
During the "day" all players, including you, will vote on which player to execute as potential mafia. A link to the vote will be posted by the mod and will stay open for 12 hours.
